L.A.The band recorded a lot of demoes one by Skagarack bassist Morten Munch - and even Ronnie Atkins later to become known in Pretty Maids was in the band for a short while around 1982 - and L.A. was touring with Pretty Maids later on. They finally got a contract with the Teleag label (Telefunken/AEG) and released their debut in 1985. As a little funny story the record was also released as a tape called "Heavy Rock" featuring a sleeve with a picture of Angus Young!! After the LP was released the band was picked together with a Swedish band as the Scandinavian entry for the International Yamaha competition in Japan. They never went any further though, and I don't know if some songs were circulating Japan. The record was recorded in the summer of 1984 - before Maiden's "Powerslave" was released - as the band always was compared to the British icons!! When the record was finally released in the spring of 1985, the band had already recorded 7-8 demos for the second LP - however Telaeg closed their activities in Denmark and L.A. were signed to SkyLight, which bankrupped a few months later. The band was offered some opening slots for major bands, but unable to complete a European record deal they split in 1986. After a brief reunion in 1988 doing one demo in a more AOR/hairy kind of metal style the band finally went seperate ways to other projects. Now in 2004 Escape Music have signed L.A. After several meetings, it became obvious that the old chemistry still was there. The 80's demos still had their charm and L.A. went to Jailhouse Studios in Horsens to re-record those songs with Tommy Hansen and new drummer Henrik Rohde Jensen. Danish National TV2 picked up on the news of the now middle aged 80's rockers and L.A. was headlining the prime time news with the story of making the album and the CD to come. A deal with Escape Music followed shortly after and the new album "Unfinished Business" will see the light on the British based label on December 6 2004. The strictly limited edition of "Unfinished Business" will come along as 2-CD and exclusively include the L.A. album as bonus on the second disc. |
